I
am a Secondary School History teacher from
Cambridgeshire, England. I am the KS3 curriculum
ICT coordinator and a History teacher at
Neale-Wade
Community College in March (I even designed
their website). I completed
my PGCE in History and English in 1998, following
my BA in History at Durham University.
QUICK UPDATE: JAN 2003.
This page will be updated further within the next
month. Some information out of date - we now
receive an average of 3,500 unique daily visitors.
Once the A-Level section is completed, this page
will be fully updated.
Mr Field.
I
created this site to provide a safe and convenient
place for history teachers and pupils to find
information, download worksheets and basically
have some fun using ICT! The Internet has
much to offer and there are many amazing sites
relevant and useful for history but it is very
difficult to quickly select the beneficial places
to visit. Since first creating the site
in June 2000 I am delighted to see how it has
grown. The site now receives an average of
over 2,000 visitors a day, with a record - near
GCSE exam time - of nearly 5,000 visitors.
Use
of ICT is a National Curriculum requirement in all
subjects. The potential of ICT for history
study is enormous yet, in my opinion, it is vastly
under utilised. This site attempts to offer
innovative, exciting and above all beneficial
ideas for the use of ICT in secondary school
history. Note: I did say attempts!
Each
website has a review indicating the suitability
for the relevant yeargroup. With more and
more schools offering the opportunity for
occasional whole class internet lessons I have
tried to highlight possibilities wherever
feasible.
There is now a huge range of online lessons, games
and quizzes, all linked to the secondary school
national curriculum for history. These can
be used directly from the site in class. The
home page allows to you
locate the range of materials the site now offers.
Pupils
fortunate enough to have internet access at home
could also be directed to the site. This
would allow them to research a specific topic or
to revise using the quiz section. However,
care is clearly needed not to overlook those
without access. Many local libraries offer
internet access, and more and more often schools
offer access to pupils at different times. A
history club could use the site before school,
during a lunchtime or even after school.
Whilst
I do check the sites that I link to, I cannot take
responsibility for the content of linked sites.
Many schools have filtering software, but as at
home, adult supervision is advised while children
are using the Internet. All currently listed
sites are believed to be suitable - I have spent a
great deal of time looking and researching!
Any
errors on this site are my own, and I apologise in
advance for any such inaccuracies. If you do
spot any errors or problems both within this site
or on the linked sites please contact
me though!
The downloadable resources section has grown out
of all proportion, due to the generosity of
teachers sending in their own materials.
There are now more than 350 .pdf worksheets, more
than 50 PowerPoint presentations and a collection
of CD-Rom task-sheets.
I
have created a number of other internet sites,
for my History and English teaching, as well as in
my ICT role at Neale-Wade:
|
 |
|
Comprehensive website for the Neale-Wade
Community College, covering all aspects of
the Curriculum together with up to date
information on all areas of school life. |
|

|
|
A
site allowing pupils to investigate the
Norman Conquest of England.
JavaScript glossary, interactive quizzes
and downloadable worksheets are designed
to make this site accessible for all KS3
pupils. |
|
|
 |
|
Interactive
quizzes to help revision of the plot and
characters. Downloadable worksheets
are provided for additional development. |
|
|

|
|
This
is the site developed jointly by myself
and Miss Shannon to accompany our teaching
at the Neale-Wade Summer Literacy School
in August 2000. Interactive quizzes
to help improve literacy. |
