Hi all,

I was wondering what your reactions were to Paper 1 on Tuesday morning. I thought it was pretty fair. Didn;t like the question on BUSINESS and environmental pressure groups changing attitudes to the environment.

Also think a few of mine were'nt clear enough with definitions of conservation and pollution, a few few stumbled on Moral Issue when they've a whole coursework on the bloomin thing!!

Certainly put a live wire thruogh my Y11 - not seen them so awake for a long time!!

Any bets for Paper Two??

GI - development indicators? maybe something on Live Eight or short term aid?

P&P - a difficult conflict showing results of prejudice/persecution? N Ireland or Cold War?

The Environmental issues certainly seemed to be the major stumbling block - I had the class straight after the exam and they didn't like that section at all! - They were pretty pleased with Conflict, as we had done a lot on bullying throughout the course (thanks to the excellent resources we were given :D ) and they were quite happy with the two 8 mark questions on culture and beliefs to do with nature vs nurture and moral issues.

Quite worried about paper two as they really struggle with global inequality!! development indicators would be ok... Aid is a different matter!

Hello.

Again quite fair.

We did GI and P&P.

As ususal (and I think you noticed) another Aid question for Gi, and most of the others I'd already prepared. Most of my group came out saying it wasn't as as they were expecting. There was one difficult eight marker....must have already blotted it from my memory!!

I am now worried they will lift the grades boundaries again, which happened last year after two relatively straight forward papers...instead of a C being about 125/240 it was a crushing 136/240 (traditionally around the level of a B in previous years.)

Think as a Dept we'll be leaning more heavily towards Patterns of Family life in its new incarnation next year => questions included 'two reasons why people get divorced' and 'explain nuclear family' which by comparison most of our students could have answered without any teaching. Comparitively a doddle.

As you say fingers crossed for the results now.

Ours came out quite happy too - we also do GI and P&P! although they were happier with the P&P section as we had a revision session just before the exam talking about scapegoats etc

I have never looked at Patterns of Family Life in much depth, although given that I teach Sociology and most of the kids doing Humanities also take Health and Social Care (in which they do family structures) - it would be worth looking at more closely as those questions do seem pretty straightforward.

Best of luck !

Just got to get through the History and Sociology exams now!
