:teacher: I have been asked to investigate running an entry level course for year 9 students which would give them points which can go towards their GCSE tally in year 11. I have been told the course can be taught in an hour a week and the students have an exam in the Summer term.Does any else do this? How do you find it?

As we dont have differentiated papers it has been suggested that we run another course for students who cant get above a C at GCSE, an entry level course or a short course so all come out with a qualification and dont just sink with a U. Does any one do this? How has it worked?

I would appreciate your comments please :flowers:

I would also be interested in knnowing any answers to this! My SLT have suggested an integrated humanities course in Year 9 to get 1 gcse. has anyone any experience of this? I think they're panicking as our Year 8's finish the 2 year key stage 3 this year!

Thanks
Rachel

I have taught entry-level OCR History to a very few students in the past. However, it was usually tried in Year 11 with students who had done the standard GCSE in Year 10 and been unable to cope. Also, this was before the recent changes to the GCSE. It was worth doing, although the results we obtained were not great. At the least it meant that they obtained a qualification which reflected some of the effort which they had put in.

I don't know if the OCR Pilot is at all relevant to what you want to do: however, Roy Huggins and Dave Stacey both do it and always seem happy to help.

Hopefully there are lots of people out there who will be able to give you more direct help; good luck.

What about the short course in GCSE Ancient History offered by OCR?
