Hi,
Has anyone started this yet or is going to start it soon? Still not sure how to go about it and would value any advice/help. We are planning to do the British people in war.
Thanks
Rachel

I have just started to think about this, although do not plan to start teaching it until summer 2010. Looking at what it says in the spec I am debating whether to look at it thematically. For example looking at rationing in the first and second world war, women in the FWW and SWW and so on.

This is of course all the background work.....the ig issue is the research students are supposed to do....you know finding their own sources for the questions.....

I think it is important they have knowledge of the issues like Rationing, Women, Propaganda and of course things likes qualty of leadership (re FWW idea of Lions led by Donkey's).

I think you have to register to get the material for 2010.....see the AQA website....

I would treat it like any other unit and try to cover as much source material in your teaching as possible so they get used to interpreting sources, especially as they are supposed to find their own.

Thanks for this advice. I was wondering about starting it after Christmas but think we will leave it till summer 2010 or autumn. I too was thinking of covering it thematically. I've recorded a couple of tv programmes recently such as the one on the coventry bombing in the blitz which may be useful too.
