Hey there -

I know it's been a long while since I last messaged the forum; hey this feels like 'confession'! :woo:

Anyway, I have been dabbling recently in the use of audio clips in lessons. In an age where we have YouTube, Bebo, etc it probably appears somewhat archaic to be using audio. Certainly some of the pupils have had to get used the process of listening but it has helped in their 'open-imaginative' visualisation of history. In fact, they ahve begun to recommend pieces and clips themselves: for example, one pupil commented how he was listening to a world darts snippet on FiveLive and the commentator spoke for 30-40secs on the amazing sporting achievements of Henry VIII! It was a great clip to use in class as an alternative the traditional written source or picture!

Other obvious clips have included, Chamberlain's Appeasement speech in 1938, Kennedy's inauguration 1960, etc

I was wondering (and hoping) :

1. Does anyone else use audio in lessons?

2. What are the relative advantages and disadvantages of their use in the classroom?

3. Do you have any clip/audio recommendations/links that we could share on this thread?

Many thanks -

Gidz

Got the Yr 11s doing podcasts for the VLE this week for revision.

Reticent to begin with but really got into it!

Listening to audio always difficult. When doing MP£s, told pupils to paint the picture in the listener's head

Audio is very useful - I like Mr Allston's (I think that's his name) OCR revision guides on iTunes and also speeches and declarations. Neville Chamberlain's war declaration is excellent as well as the Suffragette interviews on BBC radio 4 site.
