At the risk of shameless self-promotion:
Can someone point me in the direction of some good resources/websites for this topic. Key stage three group of lads. Thanks.

We - the class (Y8) and I have had a lovely introduction into the British Empire today.
Starter: image of a ? house & benefits of this drink from an MP in 1661 He said: 'Tis extolled for drying up the Crudities of the Stomack, and for expelling Fumes out of the Head. Excellent Berry! which can cleanse the English-man's Stomak of Flegm, and expel Giddinesse out of his Head. Guess the drink - think, pair, share
Quick introduction into the Empire from textbook
We then made - (am now an expert in making these) paper boats using A3 paper
you tube link to how to make boats if you don't know it is on slide 11
Even managed a local history link with google maps on the only Sugar House in NE between Newcastle & Hull
We then covered the boats with words from this topic by finding out: - literacy links
- What cargo the merchant ships carried
- The places the ships sailed to
- The British ports
- The name of the companies that traded
- The colonies that were gained
They loved making the boats - once they got the hang of it! Be prepared for frustration from both sides
They then were quite proud of their boats
They are to take the boats home to memorise the information for next lesson.
I suppose you could even bring in your hot cuppa to do this lesson - for demonstration purposes only of course!
