I've been asked to lead an INSET session on Marking Exams and Controlled Assessment. I am an exam marker so I know what I'm doing there but I'm bit nervous as I've not had to lead an INSET before and a couple of the teachers used to teach me(!)

Anyone have any tips on leading an INSET? And any thoughts on marking the Controlled Assessment. The school uses the OCR Spec B which I've not done for a while!

Any help would be great.

Good inset is like a good sermon -

2 key aspects:

1 it has (a ) a beginning (b ) a middle and (c ) an end
2 (a ) and (c ) are kept as close as possible...

More seriously, perhaps, as you would for a lesson - pitch it at the level of the audience, engage them, involve them.

Marking CA - be positive (the assumed exam-like conditions mean exam boards aren't expecting quite the polish of the old system) and allow for some mistakes by the students if what they mean is clear.

Thank you for the more serious aspect too...I don't think I'd be quite so unsure if it wasn't to former teachers of mine, but it's always good to get other peoples input.
