Afternoon all
I am after a little help. I have been appointed Head of Humanities at my school and am thinking about changing our very out-dated schemes of work at Key Stage 3. My problem is I have never written a scheme before and am a little stuck as where to begin?
How much do I put in, do you include lesson plans and links to resources etc? Does anyone know of a good framework I could follow, or should I just thrash at it and see what comes of it?
Looking forward to a few ideas

The KS 3 NC is being re-written at the mo.. You don't want to do one this week and repeat the process in a year. Prob best to tinker with what you have...
As far as what to include - there are no hard and fast rules. Much will depend on who teaches what. I have 2 specialists, so have fairly minimal detail. (Assessment question, possible direction for a fixed number of lessons, including learning outcomes and ONE suggestion for how to do it, which is basically stolen, plagiarised and adapted from the teacher guide to the student books we sometimes use (Ian Dawson's excellent Hodder series for KS3).
Key to what is appropriate in your school would be what happens in other areas. Ask your line manager for a template. S/he will normally say "there isn't one" leaving it open as to what to include. Having asked, you can do as you will. Doing as you will then saying is this ok can lead to a fractious, iterative process. (work smarter, not harder ;-) )
