Sometimes it is hard to get students to appreciate the experiences of the early migrants to the west. Well what if there had been twitter in 1850? Enter my experiment (idea was shamelessly nicked from @historyneedsyou who did an amazing live account of the battle of Marston Moor)
This summer, I am going to be LIVE Tweeting the experiences of one emigrant family, from the diary of 17 year old Abigail Jane Scott, as they would have happened 160 years ago in 1852. Each day I will tweet extracts from Abigail's diary for that date. The wording will be modified to reflect the real-time nature of the events. The idea is to keep going until they reach Oregon. There will hopefully be loads of good discussion points on the way too. Let me know your thoughts at @apf102.
