RATIONING CHALLENGE

Lesson starter idea:

Divide class into 3 large groups - Group 1, 2 & 3

Click on the above website and allocate a shopping list to each of the groups.

Go through the activity with the whole class...click on each shopping list to discover what was available in 1943.

Ask the students to write down the food they were able to purchase from their list.

Students must use the food to create a virtual tasty tea.

Class vote for the most interesting tea.

This is a great idea, thanks Lesley Ann. One thing though, the link takes you to the end of the activity- This takes you to the start: rationing shopping lists

I shall use this in a couple of weeks time and tell you the results!

http://www.johndclare.net/wwii10.htm has some info and some good links, including the text from the relevant chapter of Norman Longmate's How We Used to Live, which is fab!
