Holey moley - a whole year and no new visual archives on the internet... whats going on?!
Anyhoo, I have stumbled across this little beauty: New York Public Library photo archive:
NYPL archive
Only just dipped into it but there are some awesomely terrifying photos of workers on the Empire State Building, and well over 1,000 sources on the slave trade.

Came across this site this week - the fantastically named How Stuff Works.
The link will take you to the History section of this massive site. There's a speedy search function to take you to what you are looking for.
I was looking for some video resources on the New Deal and the Great Depression and this came up trumps with short videos on said New Deal, the Wall Street Crash, the DustBowl and many others. It's an american site so I am sure there is lots of other useful stuff on US history there as well.
Have fun with it.

This link is a great portal too: http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/
Also there is this British Cartoon database:

Back to America: the US History Channel has some Okish video (if you ignore the 'sponsors' messages'!)
