Just doing break duty and the Dept Head takes me to one side. He says that a number of SMT had complained about the Dirty Harry poster and could I take it down as it was not appropriate for a gun to be on display!

I just chuckled to myself and took it down.

Thought it would be ok as we are a Media Arts College!

Back in the day when South Park first came out......one of my Y9s drew me Kenny (in one of his many death scenes) and the quote said............Kenny knew he should of opted for history!

Do you only teach history that doesn't involve guns or violence?

How would you do that?

Isn't that the essence of Britishness and the British History we are now meant to be sharing with our students. The Histories of the Civil Service and Shopkeepers. We never went in for any this violent stuff. ;)

Do we also presume that there are no knives and forks (even plastic ones) in the canteen/refectory at that school? No scalpels in biology? Must have been a little tricky to do much about trafalgar day etc, too...

Brings forward a lot of issues, how will you be able to teach about the British Empire, they will be too shocked by Slavery! I suppose you could invite David Irving to speak about the Holocaust. I suspect these attitudes come from the Americanised training courses the SMT's go to.

Just Photoshop the original poster so it removes the gun and put something completely different in there like a pink feather. Then put the poster up again. It shows the poster is great as it is becoming a talking point. This will keep the discussion going.

Tony - how are you producing these images? It is just the ideas are great but the quality won't print out very well. Could you put them in a Word or other document so they can be resized and printed out at a higher quality? It is a shame to miss out!

I am putting it onto Powerpoint, then saving the slide as a Jpeg file, I have plenty of photo software, I was just throwing up ideas, will be spending some of Sunday (after the rugby) to produce better quality, as I will be using some in school next week.

Great stuff - what would be good is to either upload the original PowerPoint or produce the .jpg at a higher quality and size.
