Hi Guys,

I'm trying to make a game that compares the costs of a canal barge, horse and cart etc over certain distances.

Does anyone know where I can find out how much coal a steam train would use in a day or to travel 200 miles?

I've tried looking and I woudl greatly appreciate any help that anyone can give.

Q. How much coal do you use?
A. Approximately 4 to 5 cwt per day
Teifi Valley Narrow Guage

A large hard-working steam locomotive can use up to 6 tons of coal in about an hour
Steamtown National Historic site

The train burns four tons of coal per (32-mile round) trip, mostly on the outbound leg
Deseret steam train, Salt Lake City

Hi Guys,

Many thanks, you are both a life saver! I must have searched around for 5 - 6 hours on various websites last night!

I'll let you know when the game I've made is finished.
