Hiya folks,

Just seen this thread so thought I'd add something for you all. I've not got round yet to thinking about a new KS3 plan (HoF wants to wait until Sept...silly move- I'll have my ideas and thoughts in place by then and she'll have to fight them off when she's not thought about it!!!) but I've put my fertile little mind to good use and come up with a lesson planning sheet for people to 'steal' if they so want to. You'll see that I've included the new Key Concepts & Processes so that we can show where we are meeting statutory requirements.

Hope its of use to somebody...

ps- Any criticism you wish to throw at me will not be answered until at least 4th/5th August when I return from the IoM and a short visit to my parents. Alternately any compliments will be greatly received... If anybody wishes to change the pro-forma then feel free to do so; but can I (and everybody else!) have it posted on here for us to think about?

does anyone have the details for the KS3 2008 curriculm, I want to start planning, but have misplaced the notes I made in November, I am really looking for the threads, as I have a rough idea what I want to do. I would be most grateful.

This I believe is the SHP versaion

It's an earlier QCA model that it relates to Pete. Dafyyd drafted that in response to the last fiddle with the curriculum. His latest plans are posted elsewhere in this thread.

OK, I've finally got round to scanning in the Key Stage 3 plan with an emphasis on chronology, diversity and identity from Jamie Byrom and Michael Riley's workshop entitled Identity-shapers and Identity-shakers at the SHP Conference 2007...

Thanks Doug and Dafydd - what I can't get my head around is how different everybody's overviews seem to be. I love Donald's big questions and the links to C&P and Medicine through time but am marvelling at Dafydd's ability to alliterate almost every module... (is that a Welsh thing Dafydd??). Some of them look fantastic, others I think I'd love to be taught but just seem too ambitious for me. The Jamie Byrom/Michael Riley one from SHP may be textbook touting but looks nicely balanced and achievable. These are my two major problems at the moment - making it achievable and balanced.. and trying to get beyond 1216 in Year 7!! (even trying to do 'overviews' I still found myself drawn to the medieval world.. why's that...??).

Thanks to everyone for your contributions thus far. Mine are still on flip chart but am onto a new piece now.. may have something electronic by end of summer and will have to do my best to meet the alliteration challenge!!!

Thanks everyone for posting your overviews, I just wondered if anyone had any ideas/advice for me as I'm trying to change my schemes at the moment but have to combine this with a change to 2 year KS3 (eeek!) I'm completely stuck knowing what areas to concentrate on and what to leave out.

We're having to change to a 2YR KS3 from Y7 onwards too, but I am assuming that we'll end up teaching them in Y9 anyway.

have continued with my new scheme, but I am still not happy with Y7, can someone have a look and suggest where i am going wrong, I think it is the King John part, it does not relate to the local area, I am thinking about a depth study on the war of the roses (inspired by Ian Dawson) but think this would be took much war in Y7 with the crusades as well.

Really interesting to read everyones ideas on the new programme of study - this is a version we have put together but it needs more world history in it - It is really hard to stop yourself trying to cover everything - Any ideas would be appreciated

The CBfT education trust is working with ten subject associations to offer subject specific support for the implementation of the new secondary curriculum to all maintained schools in England covering PSHE, citizenship, history, geography, design and technology, languages, art and design, PE, RE and music.

The aim of the support provided by CfBT and the subject associations is to assist secondary school subject leaders and teachers to deliver the new curriculum content in particular subjects in a way that allows them to link across the whole curriculum in imaginative and inspirational ways. This will be achieved through:
The development of on-line support materials which will take the form of an ‘On-line Curriculum Making Guide’ for each subject. These will include video case studies, a toolkit of activities, downloadable subject-specific support resources and links to other key resources; web casts and recorded presentations.

A series of regional subject leader briefing events from January 2008. There will be 90 of these (one for each subject area in each of the nine Government regions). It is anticipated that this will provide a maximum of 9,000 delegate places.
Support will be delivered through a network of National Subject Leads and Regional Subject Advisers. Following the regional training events, the advisers will provide a first point of contact for participants seeking further advice and guidance or wishing to submit exemplars of their own subject curriculum plans and developments.

I'm about to start planning my New KS3 PoS...what to keep? What to bin? it is like trying to fit an ocean of history into a pint glass! Anyone else feel like this?

And squeezing KS3 down to two years, with half the timetable time we used to have as well!
