I'm hoping to apply for a Head of Citizenship position and wondered what textbooks people use for citizenship at their schools. Currently its undertaught at our school so there are few resources, I've had a look at some of the other posts and it seems that many people make their own resources but someone must use the textbooks out there.

Eventually we'd also be interested in introducing it at GCSE level. Can anyone who currently does this advise why they chose say OCR over AQA?

I'd also be interested to hear or see how you assess your students. Do you use the national curriculum level descriptors on a report?

Finally, how do you go about marking/collating their work? Do they use exercise books, portfolios, something else?

Thanks,

Dave :flowers:

Dave
I wonder if you have had any feedback since your post - none on the site sadly. Have you any suggestions about text books - I am to set up the GCSE this term and have chosen to go with OCR. I read a piece written by an NQT which was helpful but also quizzed existing teachers - more helpful! Although there are 2 pieces of c/w I think that it will be easier to do 2 shorter pieces, although for my severely dyslexic pupils I did have to give special thought about the choice.
I examined this for OCR which has also helped the decision! Having a workbook which they are familiar with before the examination, will also aid my special needs pupils.
However, advice on textbooks from anyone would be gratefully received – when I trained to teach Citizenship (have taught History/RE since then!) we were told to teach without text books, but for GCSE I feel they will be useful.

Sorry I must have missed this. I do the OCR course becasue the coursework was easier to sort out for me. I only get a group who follow vocational courses and are given Citizenship to fill their timetable. this year I had 20 in a mixed group and although they didn't get As 70% got B/C so I was pleased. I use the main OCR text

There are also some other texts with photocopiable stuff by Letts

Otherwise I use a lot of my stuff and Christine's which you'll find

I do 2 pieces of coursework for A I use a court case from the Mock trial competition and B I do a question about prison reform - ask me if you want more
Hope that helps
