The Romans

 Site

   Description
The Romans (BBC) A far more in depth section than the one provided for KS2/3 pupils, this asks and answers some key questions and provides additional multimedia.
Roman Republic and Empire An in depth and wide ranging summary and overview of the Romans from the online encyclopaedia. Useful additional links to further information and resources (including some excellent maps).
The Roman Empire A comprehensive site including interactive maps, descriptions and explanations.  The main page provides easy access to information about all characteristics of the Romans.
Timeline: Ancient Rome Interesting and cleverly presented site providing a timeline for the Roman period.  One extensive page that is exhaustive - nevertheless, very practical information.
The Roman Empire A site with some easy to locate information on topics related to the Roman Empire.  There are some very good summaries - but not an extensive list of subjects.
Ancient Rome: Images and Pictures A splendid and extensive collection of visual resources.  Very useful for coursework use and also to improve understanding. Permission is given for educational use - but check the copyright.
Forum Romanum (Thinkquest) An interactive exploration of the centre of Ancient Rome - the Forum.  High quality illustrations with detailed explanations and an interactive quiz.
Forum Romanum
(D. Camden)
A well presented, informative site that is regularly updated.  The clear navigation helps - the virtual tour of Rome is highly recommended!
Roman mythology This site is basically an online encyclopaedia for Roman mythology.  Using the extensive alphabetical list, just click on the term or person to find out more.
Ancient Rome A good source of information on the Romans.  Links from the bottom of the page provide details on many of the major Roman topics - perfect for a brief overview.
Roman Britain The Roman Britain section of this general British History website provides clear and useful information.
Encylopaedia of Roman provinces This site provides some excellent maps together with detailed explanation that may prove useful for coursework.  Only three provinces currently covered though.
Daily Life in Ancient Rome A lively explanation of all aspects of daily life in Rome.  Good detail, but very text heavy.  Potentially useful for coursework research.
Into the Roman World A richly illustrated site, with extensive explanation which is of a useful depth.  A good resource for primary and secondary source material.
The Atrium A well presented and interesting site containing information about Ancient Greece and Rome.  Quite a few attempts to sell items, but there is much of use here.
Rome Project Immediately accessible internet resource for pupils.  A school site that is an excellent place to begin Roman research, although maybe lacking in depth for extensive KS4 use.
Roman History: Useful links Quite an extensive listing of sites that cover the Roman period.  Split into different sections, much can be found from this site - but the quality of listed sites varies enormously.
