Create your own Hoop Shoot game

Hoop Shoot

You can now create your own Hoop Shoot game using an easy to use online interface.  Try it!
To cut down on time wasters, password protection has been added to the interface.  You need to submit your e-mail address to obtain a password.  Privacy, of course, guaranteed.
Upload of 21 new resources

Still lots more to add - apologies for the delays and thanks to all those who share their hard work.
The Somme (by Mr S. Drew)

Password protection for create you own.

To cut down on time wasters, password protection has been added to the Hoop Shoot, Walk the Plank and Penalty Shootout 'create your own' pages.
However this is in no way an attempt to restrict access to teacher and individuals who wish to take the time to submit a game - this is still, and will remain, free of charge as it benefits the whole teaching community.

New 'international' section added to Teachers' Forum.

A new section has been added to the extremely popular discussion forum, offering the opportunities to network with history teachers' around the world.
A large half-term update is in progress!

A large update is currently in process with new topics being added to all the current interactive games, new interactive diagrams, another huge resource upload together with further starter and plenary ideas.
Apologies for the trouble with downloads over the last weekend - the 'download counter' failed and was incorrectly fixed.  It is now expected this will work without problem.
A new game is also in development - and will be available very soon...

Upgrade of the Students' History Help forum

The Students' History Help forum has been updated and upgraded, allowing greater control and organisation of the forum whilst offering access to all.

www.SchoolHistory.co.uk/historyhelp

Don't forget you can download A4 and A5 posters / flyers to promote the free service to your classes.

 A4 .pdf (100kb)

 A5 .pdf (170kb)

Teachers who wish to 'supervise' their own students in the forum are more than welcome.  Currently twelve teachers give up their own time to offer help and suggestions when possible.
Clear rules are enforced on the forum - that adhere to and go beyond current government guidelines.  See the forum for more.

Launch of the AS / A2 section - finally!

Something I've been trying to put together since the site launched two and a half years ago.  This largest single update of internet links since the site was launched. Three sections are now complete with the addition of 30 new topics:
Early Modern British History
Modern British History
Modern European History
The aim, as with the original aim of the site, is to offer suggested internet links for those teaching and learning the topics. Please send in any suggestions.  The two remaining areas will be completed as soon as possible and additional topic suggestions will most certainly be welcomed.
Visit the new section to see the range of topics covered - the following topics are available:

Collaborative lesson starters and lesson plenaries pages.

Developing out of the KS3 strategy, but also synonymous with effective teaching, these new pages offer ideas for effective lesson starters and plenaries.
The lesson starters page includes suggestions for 5-10 minute activities to create an active and positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
The plenary (or lesson 'enders') page includes ideas and suggestions for 5-10 minute activities at the end of a lesson to reinforce and develop learning.
The emphasis here is on sharing good practice - please submit your own suggestions via the form on the bottom of each page or via the discussion forum.
New version of match-up quizzes

Far more effective version of the Match-up quizzes now created.  Total recoding of previous version means they are easier to understand and use.
Try the new version with one on the Wall Street Crash!
Brand new accompanying 'create your own' match-up quiz also created - www.schoolhistory.co.uk/matchup.  New quizzes can be automatically created and submitted.

New online lesson - 1066: the claims to the throne

One hour lesson that briefly introduces students to the claims to the throne in 1066 and then encourages them to plan their response as to who should be King.

'Interactive diagrams' development

Saveable versions seem to be working well - so the format will be copied across to all of the existing diagrams.  Further sections are being created including Medieval Realms, Cold War and Medicine through Time.

05 Jan 03

Saveable version of interactive diagrams

I'm not 100% confident that it works yet, but it has been quite extensively tested.  As a trial, a Cold War diagram has been uploaded using the new format.
This allows users to work on a diagram, save their work and return to it later.  They must work on the same computer, but it is hoped this makes the diagrams more useful.
As with the 'create your own' launched yesterday, data is saved via simple text file cookies and deleted when a diagram is printed.

04 Jan 03

Create your own interactive diagrams

In the most complex piece of Flash coding I've ever attempted, you can now use an online interface to create your own interactive diagrams.  What took hours, now takes minutes.
Work can be saved using Flash MX 'shared Objects' - small text files which are stored on your computer.
When you have completed your diagram the data is automatically sent via the webpage to SchoolHistory.co.uk, and can be quickly turned into new diagrams.
Redevelopment of the 'interactive diagrams'

New easy to remember url:

www.schoolhistory.co.uk/diagrams

Whole section being redeveloped to accommodate an update to the diagrams and the new create your own.  I plan to add more of these including customised versions (developing ideas used in the recent Native Americans lesson)
Brief explanation of the different uses and benefits of the diagrams added.
The aim is to create sections for specific topics developing the existing three areas.  Anyone willing to help with this is more than welcome.  Let us know.

17 Dec 02

Updated version of Elizabeth I conclusions lesson

Following its use in class, and observations of other teachers using the lesson, I've made a couple of changes.
The main task now opens in a separate pop-up window without 'back' buttons.  This will prevent the problem of students clicking 'back' on their browser and losing all their work!
When reaching the conclusion, students now have to place the scales in the most appropriate position - this gives them a starter for their conclusion.
