The
links on this site have been organised into Yeargroups. For example, the
Norman Conquest can be found in Year 7 links, as this is when most departments
study it. As history departments don't all study topics in the same
order, some of the Year 8 and Year 9 links have been duplicated. |

If
you're lost, in a hurry or just can't be bothered to look around, the best way
to find information is via the site search. On
the left of every page of this site is the menu bar. The 'Site Search'
option at the top allows you to search for anything on this site. Just
type your query into the box and press 'Go':
The Site Search
then quickly looks to see what is on the site and then displays the results.

Tools Despite
there being differences between each search engine, there are tools that
many search engines have in common:
 |
Quotation
marks |
|
|
-
enclosing a phrase in quotation marks tells the search engine to
list only sites that contain those words in that exact order. |
 |
Plus
and minus signs |
|
|
- Adding
a plus (+) sign in front of a word indicates that the word
must appear in the search results. Adding a minus (-)
sign in front of a word indicates that the word must not appear in
the results. |
 |
Boolean
operators |
|
|
- These
work in very similar ways to plus and minus signs, they must be in
capitals to work properly. |
|
AND
- indicates that words linked by the AND must appear in
results. For example to find history and geography type:
History AND Geography. |
|
OR
- indicates that results must include at least one of the words
joined by the OR. For example, to find history or
geography type:
History OR Geography. |
|
AND
NOT - indicates that results must not contain the word that
follows the AND NOT. For example, to find history but
without the word Norman type:
History AND NOT Norman. |
|
Parentheses
- used to group words for more complicated queries. For
example to find history with either the word Norman or the word
Saxon type:
History AND (Norman OR Saxon). |
