I would have posted sooner (but the email didn't come through until today), but I have my History mock tomorrow on the American West and some of Medicine Through Time and I am finding it hard to revise all of that information. I had started revising about a week ago and am going through past questions and planning answers. I just don't see how I can remember 2 years worth of work. any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Well it sounds like you are approaching your work in the right way. Part of the point of taking mock exams is to give you experience of what the real thing will be like - including the buildup to the exam.

The first thing I always suggest is going through past papers, making brief notes and ideas with the key points that you would put. You seem to be doing this already! :)

I would put together the past questions that you have and try to think what questions could come up. Set yourself one of these questions and give yourself 10 minutes to plan an answer. Then compare this to your notes. Try and focus on the key ideas, how you would make your argument.

Do remember much of the GCSE now isn't about remembering facts and figures, it is about understanding the issues and being able to explain your views. Obviously, you then need examples to back your views up, but the key ideas are the most important.

I personally found creating small revision charts the best way to revise - but there are many different ways.

For today, as it is so near your exam, I would suggest using your past papers and your notes to produce bullet point answers that you can learn.

For Medicine through time you can use the Interactive Diagrams created by Mr Moorhouse and Mr Walker: http://www.schoolhis...co.uk/diagrams/

Try using some of these links too:

With probably most useful for you today:
http://www.bbc.co.uk...ine/index.shtml

http://www.schoolhis...sion/west.shtml
Again, today try:
http://www.bbc.co.uk...usa/index.shtml (just the first four).

Most importantly though, work through your notes and ideas today, but don't do too much. Preparing yourself properly by getting an good night's sleep will help you be fresh tomorrow.

Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, the links really helped. I just still feel "lost", as may have revised all 2 years worth of topics but whether I can remember them, or recall them in an exam I don't know. I forgot to say before that we have only just started doing Medicine Through Time e.g last week. We have only just done Paré, so I guess there will be an essay on that. I am just worried I don't know enough and I'd hate to be in a 2 hour exam not knowing what to right. Also, as I am predicted A*, I need to do well!

Well - you are certain of one thing - this is only the practice and this can only help.

I would try to relax and stay calm - as much as you can. Work through your notes and ideas. Set yourself a couple of essay topics - and see if you can write down the key points in about 5 minutes.

Good luck. Remember mocks are all about exam experience - so you can become expert for the real thing in the summer :)
