How Do I Revise History? How to break down syllabus

I am doing Edexcel GCSE History, American West and Medicine Through Time.
I have been trying to revise History, and although I have plenty of resources, I have realised I don't actually know how to break down the syllabus down and revise it. I know how to revise e.g notes and stuff but not how to pick sections and revise them! Hope this makes sense

Can anyone help me?

Was this not what you asked in the Revision section?

You were given lots of help there!

For some additional ideas, also see my new (not quite finished yet) page at:

Most exam boards publish their syllabus online....you could check out on the Edexcel site OR ask your teacher for a pupil friendly copy of the syllabus.

Well I know it was similar to my other topic, but is just choosing a section to revise. For instance, I could revise the Homesteaders as a section and that would be ok, but the whole of the American Indians topic! That is a lot, and I don't know how to break it down into bits!

I will check out the links, thanks.

Oilcan,

when i was doing my A level history my tutor gave me such a good tip that i have found invaluable, especially during my degree. She got us into the habit of studying past exam papers to spot patterns. You should get hold of these from your tutor and start looking at what questions/topics/ historical debates/ are popular and revise these as a start. I was lucky that my A level course dated back to 1979 so i had loads of exam questions to revise from! also, if some areas have not turned up for a while you could revise these in case they do. I notice that teachers are better at giving revision tips to A level students but less so to GCSE students. bizzarre.

Hi,
Thanks a lot, we got given a task booklet and this has lots and lots of past questions in. ;)
Best of luck for your A Level course :D
