I really agree, it gives replies that do not just tell us the answer, but help us to learn more by persuading us to think and answer questions for ourselves.

This is very true. However, it is important that students who attempt to help other students here think a little before doing so.
- It's always a good idea to check the dates of the posts of the thread in question; for example there is little point in posting advice or help in a thread that is long 'dead'.
- It's wise to read what has been said beforehand to ensure that the advice is not just being repeated - albeit in a slightly different form
- It's advisable to check that if useful links are being suggested that they have not already been given before.
- It's a good idea to check to see that what you want to say is directly relevant
