Try these link:
http://en.wikipedia...._Rolling_Stones .... also links right at the bottom of that page may be useful.

There are other 'encyclopedia-type' articles on the web too, but as far as I can see they are all copies of this one.

The answer to your question about the woman is on that page (link above):

Quote

In an attempt to recreate the atmosphere of Hyde Park, and as a reaction to the Woodstock festival, the tour culminated in a free concert given at Altamont, a disused racetrack located about 40 miles east of San Francisco. Poorly organised, and with on-site security provided by the Hells Angels (at the suggestion of the Grateful Dead), the concert was a disaster, featuring running battles between fans and security which reached a head when Meredith Hunter, a young black fan who had unwisely brought a pistol (and a white girlfriend) to the show, was stabbed and beaten to death by the Angels during the band's performance of "Under My Thumb". (The concert would be documented in Albert and David Maysles' film Gimme Shelter). A recurring, morbid urban legend states that "Sympathy for the Devil" was playing during the killing, though this is not the case. This was originally reported in Rolling Stone magazine, considered by some to be the "journal of record" for 1960s music. The aptness of this legend has ensured that no amount of subsequent corrections (in that publication and elsewhere) has been able to correct this impression. In fact, the murder occurred during "Under My Thumb".

If you need more help than this then do post again.

I am afraid I don't know any more about the reason Meredith Hunter was attacked than appears in that account. I would assume it is mostly because (s?)he was black (Hell's Angels are often seen as being racially prejudiced).

I have done a bit of a search using Meredith Hunter's name and although I wouldn't trust everything I read on the Net where the gender of this person is mentioned they all refer to Meredith Hunter as a man. (The article I referred you to just mentions a 'fan' and I had assumed Meredith was a girl's name)

If this person was male that actually makes more sense since the article points out that he was with a white girlfriend and also that he was armed with a pistol. These two things together would antagonise the Hells Angels who were acting as security guards at the concert. NB A racially mixed couple would have not gone down well with the Angels and the gun would be seen as a threat. (BUT ... See second link below)

Some more links:
http://music.yahoo.c...-Rolling-Stones
http://pages.eidosnet.co.uk/johnnymoped/mu...k_altamont.html
This site goes into a lot of detail about the incident and answers your question. However, I have absolutely NO IDEA AT ALL how trustworthy this site is and it is clearly a very one sided account. Anything that you write about this incident should show an awareness of that and you really ought to try to cross check this account against others (as all good historians do!)

Try searching for "Meredith Hunter" +"Rolling Stones" yourself in order to find more links and accounts so that you can cross-check.

The Beatles official site is very good. The Rock and Rol Hall of Fame has a good write up about the Rolling Stones. To get an idea of the impact they had, take a look at this site about the swinging sixties. There's also a thinkquest lesson about this era which might be worth looking at.
