Hello.
In class, we have been given a topic each to research and create a presentation on it for next lesson.

I have decided to create a powerpoint presentation on my topic: Barrage Balloons.
I wondered whether you could give me a few useful links to some basic information and clear images.

I have tried search engines - but I can't find any basic information of facts such as:
- What they were
- What they were used for
- What effect they had
- Who designed them...and so on..

All the links seem to lead onto information that is way too complicated for a quick presentation - so maybe you can point me in the right direction!!

Thanks for your help! :)

These web pages all seem to be quite basic and straightforward with - collectively - the sort of info you are looking for and not too much reading involved ;)
http://www.spartacus.../2WWbarrage.htm
http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/beyond/fact...3_prog11d.shtml
http://www.gatesheadgrid.org/westallswar/a...ge_balloon.html .... has some interesting facts too.
http://www.nmm.ac.uk/collections/explore/o....cfm?ID=PAE1297 .... tells you when they were first used.(WWI)

Hope this helps?

I haven't found a named designer for barrage balloons - just the fact that the Low Zone balloons used against low flying aircraft were designed by the Air Ministry in 1934.

Thanks for the links - very helpful!

I'm just a bit stuck on how to go about it to be honest.
There's so much information - I'm not sure how to set it out and what to put on each page. So far, I have:
1.) When Barrage Balloons were first seen/used.
2.) What Barrage Balloons were & how they were made. and..
3.) What the aim of the Barrage Balloons were.

The problem is, I've only made three pages (on the topics above) and the presentation seems really short!! Do you have any ideas of titles I could use during my presentation?

Thank-you once again!! ;)

I'm assuming everyone in your class is researching and then doing a PowerPoint presentation on a topic? If so then I'd have thought you won't be expected to take more than 5 mins and to have about 6 slides.

I suggest:
Slide 1 Heading - Barrage balloons
Slide 2 Big picture of a barrage balloon + a statement about what it basically was
Slide 3 The earliest uses of barrage balloons (in WWI)
Slide 4 Research and Development into barrage balloons in the 1930s and why they were seen to be important in an age of war in the air
Slide 4: How barrage balloons were used in WWII (may be 2 slides on this?)
Slide 5: Some interesting and unusual facts about barrage balloons in WWII (from the 3rd link I gave you before)
Slide 6: Why you think barrage balloons were important during WWII/ the effects they had.

Try to include a relevant picture on most of your slides if you can to give some visual interest. Someof the links I gave before have pictures and you could find more by doing a Google image search.

I'm delighted to hear the presentation went really well. Congratulations!

Thank you, too, for taking the time to tell us how it went. It makes helping people here all the more worth while. :)
