I went to Belgium/France with my school to visit some of the places were great battles such as Ypres (beutiful city) and the Somme. I also heard lots of stories to, I wondered if anyone else had heard of these.

One story was about the 800 Moroccan troops, they held a trench system. Some of the most couragous and determinated fighters, one day the germans lauched a mass attack on the Moroccan forces killing every single troop sent from Morocco. There a mememorial near the great Canadian one to all of those men.
Not much of a funny story but is rather odd.

Another one was about Hill 62 I think it was called. Where the British had been trying to occupy this hill for since the war started in 1914, when the Canadians came over to join the war, a group was sent to Hill 62, within a few days (not sure how many) the Canadians had taken Hill 62 from the Germans so easily. After the war, the French gave that soil to the Canadians for them to build a memorial on. If you dont know, Hill 62 is the highest point in Belgium, (but not very high!)
