Hi!
I have two questions...
i need a description about how the Plains Natives conducted waefare. If they had enemies of allies. And I have to name them and explain why they were enemies or allies...
and also a description about how their society was organized, ie: family, community, how work was organised, and who did it...

I don't know... i was searching through google, but i still couldn't find the info on those 2 particular questions!

please help??
thank you... :)

Hello again kakayu. Welcome back!

I know you are in Canada, and as you know we are History teachers in the UK here and therefore not so familiar with Canadian History ;)
As I am sure you realise, the Native Americans did not know about or recognise artificial borders such as the one between Canada and the USA, so finding information solely about the Plains Natives of Canada is a bit tricky.

However, I have found the following websites that I think maybe helpful to you:
http://www.geocities...n/cree_kids.htm .... some of this is relevant
http://www.utexas.edu/courses/wilson/ant30...rochenskip.html ... some of the information in the earlier paragraphs is relevant
http://digital.libra.../history/10.htm ..... look under the heading 'Blackfoot'

I think that maybe if you use the names of Plains Native tribes who lived in the area covered by central modern Canada then you may have more success in your searches.

For example try:
Blackfoot +allies +enemies or Blackfoot +alliance or Blackfoot +warfare

Then try other tribe names.

I hope this helps?

Have you also tried your own school textbook and the school library, or your local library????

heyy

nice "seeing" you again! i didn't use this site for a long time because i'm doing pretty good in socials studies this year. it's just THIS project that is hard... because when I look up Plains natives, it always comes out as American tribes and stuff, so, I'm not really sure if they are the same... but i'm pretty sure that it's the Canadians that I'm looking for.

thank you for your great help! I have a test on this tomorrow too... :D and i got perfect on my napleon test last time. :)

thank you!
L.

I was looking through the websites, and, i found quite a bit on what the women did, but I'm not sure what the men did... but I'm pretty sure that they did less than women, right? and i know that they treat elders with like, extreme respect...
but i don't really understand the part on what they did on wars and how it was conducted...

 this is hard!
thank you,
L.

Great to hear you're doing well in Social Studies this year. Well done on the Napoleon test result too. I expect part of the reason for this is that your English is much better now. :)

You're right about treating the elderly with great respect and the fact that the women did most of the daily 'chores', but the men's job was to hunt and to be great warriors (fighters).

To be honest I really don't know too much about their conduct of warfare, but I think if you ignore the fact that the Plains Native Americans often fought to protect their lands against 'invading' European settlers, then in the main they fought to protect their hunting areas - since they depended heavily on the buffalo for food, clothing etc etc.

In order to protect their lands various tribes made alliances with others with whom - before the arrival of white men - they had been enemies competing for land.

See the introductory paragraph on this page where you can find some more detail:
http://www.nativeame...m/Blackfeet.htm

Have you tried using the sort of search terms I suggested in my first message? Are you sure your textbook does not have this information for the test? It seems a bit odd to me that a teacher would set a test that depends on you using the Internet rather than the textbook that you use for your studies.

Anyway - Good Luck!

thank you X10000,
L.

As always, we are pleased to help. You must let us know how you got on in the test.

Perhaps you'll remember the general principle of what I said about search terms when you are looking for information on other topics too.

Time does indeed fly!
