okay world war one. why did Russia withdraw from the war? How did the Russian move affect Germany?
I think the Russian move affected Germany because with the collapse of the eastern front, Germany could shift its resources to the west.
Thanks for your help!!

Russia withdrew from WWI after the Bolshevik (communist) Revolution in November 1917. They did so because the Russian miltary failures on the eastern Front had caused not only immense suffering but also huge expense. It's one of the reasons why the Bolsheviks gained support for their revolution - even though as a result they agreed a Peace Treaty with Germany (at Brest Litovsk) which gave large areas of Russia to the Germans.

That's right. You might also go on to point out that as a result of that the Germans got very close to winning the war in their spring offensive of 1918.

You need to think your way through the Treaties of St Germain and Trianon + look at a map of the immediate Post War (WWI) period.

See this page (scroll down):

... but ....

Czecholslovakia and Yugoslavia were completely new countries created out of parts of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire, and in a sense Poland was too although it was a matter of 'recreating' a country that had existed before. Austria and Hungary weren't exactly 'new' countries but they did become separate countries when the Austro-Hungarian Empire split up.

The 'Baltic State' countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were new as well.
