What you want/need, loz, is a map of the British Empire in 1918 (ie at the end of the First World War) since this will show you all the places under British rule.

I'm trying to find a decent one online (big enough to see/read properly). I'll post again when/if I can find one**

In the meantime you could try looking for that too. Also .... is your textbook any use??

______________

Later ...

See here:
http://en.wikipedia....hEmpire1921.png

or here:
http://www.safalra.c...ish-empire-map/

and use an atlas to find the names of the countries

Better still is this one:
http://www.britishem...oom/maproom.htm

You need to click on each of the labelled areas of the map and then each of those takes you to a page of information and a 'close up' map of the area and on this the names of the countries are clearly shown. Note that these (correctly) use the names of countries that were in use at that time.

No problem. You just need to think 'laterally' at times.
