Hi Pip.

Start your answer by making a simple and direct answer to the question.

Eg. These two accounts are basically in agreement about the reasons why Prohibition was introduced, however there are several significant differences .....

or - obviously - whatever is relevant and appropriate where the two sources are concerned.

Then go on to explain the statement you have just made making direct reference to both sources.

Since you are asked 'How far do they agree' you should indeed point out in what respects they disagree too.

Hope that's enough to help. Do post again if you need to, though as I am sure you appreciate we are not permitted to correct what you have done or anything like that.

There's a real problem here. In fact there are two!

Firstly you cannot ask for direct help with your coursework. Secondly the question you refer to is about two posters that will be on your question paper - we can't see them!

What I would suggest is that you follow the guidelines your teacher has given you when you have answered similar questions before. You would do best to focus on the question by explaining your opinion about the posters, picking out points you can see and explain why you think they are important.

I'm afraid it would be wrong to give any additional help as this is something you have to do yourself as part of GCSE coursework.

If you are finding it difficult, I recommend noting down some ideas and planning your answer. You can then explain to your teacher that you were stuck, but wrote out a plan. This will show you have tried.

AS Mr Field says, there is a limit to the help we are permitted to give with coursework but I think that if you always begin your answer to any question by getting to the point straight away then you cannot go far wrong - as I advised in answer to your previous question. So begin by giving a clear and direct basic answer to the question. Then go on to explain your answer referring directly to each of the two posters to back up what you are saying.

As a general rule it is much better to deal with things this way rather than to describe what can be seen first. If you do that you are in danger either of being very repetitive, or - more likely - of assuming that the answer to the question can be deduced from your description.

It is always better to work on the assumption that the marker is an idiot (not true really of course ;) ) who has to have things carefully explained to him/her.

Hope this helps.

Ermmm ....... how about a 'Please'?

..... and a 'Thank you' for the help you were given about Prohibition would be nice!

I don't know the answer to your question, but there's an extensive site about Elliot Ness here. You could try that.

I was wondering whether somebody could help clear this up for me?. Prohibition was introduced in 1920 and groups and certain individuals even politicians supported the ban of alcohol. But why then was it introduced in 1920 and then all of a sudden abolished in 1933?. I would really appreciate the help,
Thanks for your time

Kindest Regards,
Liam

The simplest answer of all is that prohibition was abolished because it had not been a success and had led to more/as many problems as it had aimed to solve.

However, as the Forum Motto at the top of the page states we don't "do your work for you here", but we are happy to offer help.

I suggest you take a look at the following in order to find out the answer to your question:

Brief reasons for the repeal of the Prohibition Laws - this is part of a bigger section on Prohibition and Al Capone

This short article about prohibition is quite helpful.

This much more detailed article about Prohibition has a section at the end about the repeal (D. The End of Prohibition.)

I hope that helps but if there is anything you don't understand then do post again.

Thanks for the speedy reply I appreciate it. I found one of your listed sites ''the short article'' useful and it explains it simply and why it was abolished. Thanks again for the help, greatly appreciated :)

Have you tried the links dealing with Prohibition on this page of our main site?
http://www.schoolhistory.co.uk/gcselinks/i...usain1920s.html

They are annotated so you can tell which ones may be useful.

As far as the methods used by the Prohibtionists are concerned, I doubt whether you'll find a nice neat list anywhere, but if you read the information carefully then you can figure out what the methods they used were for yourself.

For example ...... if you see posters from a group in favour of Prohibition what method does that tell you that they were using?

Hope this helps.
