The way to do this kind of essay goes like this:
Section 1. The argument for the proposed idea
Section 2. The argument for the other ideas
Section 3. Your conclusion
So you will write:
1. a section giving all the ways that the coming of the Americans helped to win the war.
Then you will say: 'However, it can be argued that many other things were just as important in winning the war' and then you will write:
2. a section talking about ALL the other factors which helped win the war and why.
Then you will say: 'So, which was the most important - was it the Americans, or all the others?' and then you will write:
3. a section saying which you choose and why.
As for you individual questions:
a. The BEF was vital in stopping the Schlieffen Plan in the opening stages of the war (research Mons). Not strictly the BEF, but British forces were also important in various campaigns, not least Somme, Passchendaele and 1918 - without the British, the French army would have collapsed in 1917.
b. Trench warfare was important for reducing the war to a war of attrition, which the British won.
PS dont forget to say 'please' - everybody does on this forum.
