I no this isnt a thread as such but
The Reign of Terror was a period in which a mass of killing took place within France. The killing of rebels, enemies, and all those against the revolution was meant to ‘purify’ France and the revolution itself and is mainly associated with two main figures - Robespierre and Danton. The terror started in 5th September 1793 and ended on the 28th of January the following year, and by then, around 16000 suspected rebels had been executed in a mass slaughter. The guillotine was the symbol of this period and was the main instrument of execution. The start of the reign of terror was begun with the execution of the countries main leaders’ terror; Queen Marie-Antoinette, the Girondins, Philippe Égalité despite his vote for the death of the King, Madame Roland and many others lost their lives under its blade. This was also an important symbol as it demonstrated the power of the revolutionary reign. Many people to die during the reign of terror where wrongly convicted which is why this was a very scary time for the inhabitants of France. Robespierre was one of the main causes of this and encouraged the killing of many people that were innocent. These are the main reasons why the reign of terror got so out of hand. The killing of innocent people and the quantity of people killed was phenomenal and increasingly frightening for the people of France. The reign of terror ended with the execution of one of its main leaders – Robespierre and signified a dramatic change for France. An end to this period of executions must have been a big political and emotional relief for the inhabitants of France. I no its a bit long but thx soooooo much!!!!! -------------------- With eyes that see, into infinity ................................ I think the way to think about this essay is to look at the title you were asked to write about, jellybean_emily.
What you have written certainly does describe the terror, but you haven't explained why it got out of hand. So this is a WHY essay (and answered with the word 'because') and not a WHAT essay. What you have written is not wrong, but t does not answer the question. The Terror certainly did get out of hand - they killed thousands, didn't they! But WHY did they go so mad? Think about how these things might make people 'go mad' and begin killing 'traitors' indiscrimiately: 1. Foreign powers were invading France (and winning the war) 2. The nobles and th Church were plotting to overturn the revolution and bring back the king 3 The mob was rioting on the streets. |
