Some ideas...
Pros:
Listen to Lord Cromer, writing in 1908 about the effect of 25 years of British rule in Egypt:
The difference between now and then is remarkable. Slavery no longer exists. Justice is no longer bought and sold. Transport has been improved. The sick man can be nursed in a well-run hospital. The lunatic is no longer treated as a wild beast. The punishment given to the worst criminal is no longer barbaric. Lastly, there are schoolteachers.
Lord Cromer, Modern Egypt (1908)
There is a strong argument that it is better to be ruled by a benign empire than by an indigenous tyrant.
Cons:
1. The right to rule yourself is one of the basic human rights.
2. White men's diseases
3. Theft of land
4. Massacres and wars
5. Rampant racism - the British invented eugenics, concentration camps, Nazi race theory
6. Wrecked the economy for the benefot of the mother country and took away all sense of how torule, so that when the imperilaists left the countries collapsed.
Note it was also bad for the mother countries
1. encouraged racism, which is harmful to the racists.
2. protected the economies by ensuring cheap raw materials - which meant that home industry was allowed to slip into inefficiency.
