Well I could tell you all the reasons why the First World War broke out - but it is not the policy of the teachers who answer questions on this Help Forum just to do your work for you. ;) Rather we try to help you to find the information which will enable you to do the work yourself and/or to help you to understand how to tackle the question.

There are quite a few websites that explain the Causes of the First World War, but I think the one you will find the most useful is this online lesson about the causes of the war. It is written by the teacher who owns this site (Mr Field) and is very good.

If you already are familiar with the basic information from your lessons at school then you should find this summary diagram useful. You will need Acrobat Reader in order to read this. You will probably have this on your computer, but if not you can download it here. It's free.

Can you help my history?
• Why did warfare degenerate into trench warfare? (150 words)

1. What was the Schlieffen plan and why did it fail?
2. What happened at Mons?
3. How did new technology make the old methods of warfare useless? ( you could compare briefly the tactics of this war to a previous war e.g. Boer War in Africa, the Napoleonic war or the American civil war )

• What happened at the following key battles? (200 words)

1. Ypres
2. Neuve Chapelle
3. Vimy Ridge
4. Artois-Loos

• What conclusions can be drawn from the research you have made and how does this differ from the conclusions made by Sir John French? ( 150 words)You could include reference to the following;

1. The overall accuracy of Sir John French’s report.
2. The changing nature of modern warfare including tactics and weapons.
3. The reasons for huge losses in battle and suggestions for future tactics.
4. Advice about how to conduct the war in the future.

That is what we have to do and i do not have a clue..... i am not asking for answers, only some help.... eg: some links/sites per question that i would find useful...... Cheers,
Perry aka Takedown

You cannot post coursework specific questions on this board. Coursework is part of your exam which should be done with guidance from your teacher.

You have done more than simply ask for help - you have posted the specific questions.

You should consult your teacher to get the exam-approved guidance.

For general help on WWI you can use the following links:

Quite a frequent question this one. Try looking at the advice given in these previous answers:
