I was practicing for my exam and i came across a question on the treaty of Breast Litovsk. I know it was when Russia came out of the first world war. Why did they agree to the treaty with all it's harsh demands? Help would be much appreciated

The Bolsheviks had promised Peace, bread and land, so when they took power they HAD to end the war.
Actually, Trotsky negotiated the peace and I believe he was shocked by how much the Germans demanded - but then they had him over a barrel.
But, you see, Trotsky and the Bolsheviks at that time believed that Russia was only the beginning and that it was only a matter of months before there was a WORLD-WIDE revolution, and germany would be overthrown by the people anyway. SO that's why they could give away everything like they did.
