i'm really sorry to bother you, but this is really important, possibly the most difficult question in my coursework.
it asks you to include why the schlieffen plan failed,
the involvement of the BEF at Mons, under Haig, which forced the Germans back to the River Aisne and the River Marne,
Battles that ended german hopes of a short war against france and britain
new weapons and the nature of trench warfare

It's not that I don't know the content, I just don't know how to put it into an essay
Can you help?
Much appreciated

On why did a stalemate develop, read this thread.

On why the Schlieffen Plan failed, try this BBC Bitesize page.

Heya
The schlieffen plan failed due to Von moltke not wanting the french coming in to germany so he moved the troops from the right to the left, which was then that the French troops realised what was going on behind them.
They were close enough to get back and defend themselves.
But the germans had reached the river marne and they found most of the french army waiting for them alongside the British, this battle lasted 3 days and showed the Germans that they could not break through to Paris because the two sides were too evenly matched- the French rushed troops in by taxi to fight, after the three days the Germans realised that they were in danger being so low on troops and they retreated...

Hope some of that helps :)
I have just finished my coursework on the schlieffen plan B)

xx
