Need Help to solve my Tma (art)

Hi everybody:
I need some help. I have to analyze painting, "the oath of the Horatii". By David (politically, philosophy and link it to the French revolution. <_< :wacko: can some body help me.

I don't know how your teacher will want you to 'analyse the painting', but it strikes me that the wikipedia article is a good starting point, where it has a section on THEME/MEANING, and it has a section on TECHNIQUE.

If you were to add a third section on the painting and its place in the Revolution, surely that would have cracked it?
This webpage and this webpage place the paitning in its social and historical context, though pages 18 and 19 of this google-book argue whether the patining is 'pre-revolutionary' or 'fully republican'.


There is an online essay analysing David's Death of Marat, which you could read to see how that writer did it with that painting.


PLEASE NOTE Simon Schama has written about this painting in Citizens - you need to see what he has said and put it into your essay.
