The Title Of The essay : 'Henry VIII was a great monarch.' Do you agree or disagree with this statement .?

i have wrote an introduction, and im onto the sencond paragraph 'Main Arguement' - Go into detail and give evidence to show that Henry VIII was not a good monarch.

Help ! Why wasnt Henry a good Monarch .?

Thankyou V.Much I now need to know some of the good things Henry VIII did.
I Know He Made England a stronger and more respected country and he improved englands defences , but
how did he make England stronger and more rerspected ? and how did he improve englands defences ?
is there any other good things Henry VIII Did ?

Hi Again, i have recieved my draft back and its good but to complete my neat copy of the essay i need to write a bit about the pilgrimage of grace, i have looked on various websites but i can not fully understand most articles. I also need to write about henry VIII's foriegn policy
(Towards France) and cannot find this anywhere.

I think the thing about the PofG is that these poor people were simply protesting about the social side-effects of the closure of the monasteries, and the religious needs that were not being met - two things that we REQUIRE a government to take account of nowadays; that is what a modern government is there to do. This meant NOTHING to Henry, who tricked the people into going home by promising to think about things, then sent his army through the unprotected villages hanging 'rebels' in every place. I think you can say something about whether you think Henry was a 'great' king here.

Much of henry's foreign policy in relation to France was because he was jealous of the French king Francis I - who ALSO was a handsome, strong, athletic, cultured Renaissance monarch. That is why Henry went to war - a war that he did not do very well in (and while he was away, his wife Katherine of Aragon organised the resisatnce to a Scottish invasion which, defeated at Flodden, saw the END of the Scottish threat once and for all). I think you can say something about whether you think Henry was a 'great' king here too!
