It seems a pity that you are not able to find the time to read the book since you can hardly claim it as a source for your work, can you, if you haven't actually read any of it? Besides, it's an excellent read and gives a really good feel for the atmosphere in Berlin in the early 1930s.
You can find an article about Christpher Isherwood here:
http://www.kirjasto....fi/isherwoo.htm which has some brief reference to the book.
These readers' reviews on a book seller's site may be helpful too:

However, the
original cover of the book showed an aerial photo of Berlin (I think) so the book cover on this site is not 'authentic'.
Interestingly, the book was the inspiration for the movie 'Cabaret' and
today's Daily Mirror was giving away a free DVD of this great musical. I guess you might possibly see this message in time to rush out to your local newsagent and get a copy. A 'snip' for the price of the newspaper!
The book also inspired the play (and movie)

Strictly speaking, of course, 'Goodbye to Berlin 'is not a good source to use This is because the book is about the period (1929 - 1932) immediately
before the Nazi's came to power in 1933. So unless you were wanting to use Isherwood's book as introductory/background material then it is not really relevant.
Where primary source material for
Life in Nazi Germany is concerned there is a wealth of material you might use. So much that I hardly know where to begin; so it would be helpful if you posted again saying what your essay is going to focus on (eg Young people, anti-semitism, the 'Police State', something else?) and then I will point you in the direct of some useful primary source material.
