Hello,

I am an Italian student, coming to England in November 2008. I will be sitting the IGCSE History exam and am a little confused about the way it works. The problem is that I will enter as a private candidate, and the school where I'm sitting the exam will not help me at all with any of the information that I require.

What I need to know.

Ok from section A I will be asked 2 questions about subjects ranging from : THE ROAD TO WAR - SUPER POWER RELATIONS

the from section b I will asked questions based on mt depth studies.

My question is, do I choose both subjects from section A and B or will they be random. For example I think in my head ok, I'll study " divided union" and "super power relations" for section A.

But instead at the exam they ask about the road to war insead, and I'll be completely lost ?

Do I need to state what I want to answer for the exa before, or will all papers be the same, and I just need to answer those relevant to my studies ?

I hope I have been clear, please help!!

Yours faithfully

Daniel Callard

Sorry Daniel!
I didn't mean to worry you.
I was just sympathising with you.
I'll see if I can anyone to answer your questions!
Don't worry - these things always sort themselves out.

Thanks Daniel for reminding me
My general message on the Teachers' forum has not prompted any response.
I have now asked one of the teachers personally - let's hope he has the time.
Again, give it three or four days and then get back to me again.

If you don't get anything further Daniel, I would suggest contacting the exam board directly - for example: http://www.edexcel-international.org/quals...ri/assignments/ via http://www.edexcel-i...l.org/home/help

They might be able to direct you towards a nearby centre or school who are delivering the course.

Sorry about the delay daniel, but I have been on holiday (the benefits of teaching in International Schools!). Your best starting point is the CIE website which has some excellent advice. You will also find some useful help regarding past paper questions on the Active History website (sorry, don't know the addresses, try Googling them). As for your question about what you have to answer. There will be questions ranging from the causes of WWI right through to the fall of the Soviet Union from which you will get to choose. Generally speaking there are questions on the causes of WWI, Peaces Treaties & the League (1920s), The league and the road to war (1930s), The Cold War 1945-Vietnam, The End of Soviet control of E.Europe, The UNO.

Plus your depth study of course.

You do not have to specify which questions you will answer and you can choose any two (you could do any of the 19th century questions as well if you wanted to).

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I am in holiday mode and I only have limited access to the internet. If you need more, bump this thread in September when I am back in the swing of things.
