Purpose of the Village
Education
Transport
Health
Shops
The Mill
Housing

proper confused! theres so many different things, i dont know where to start.

Hey! :D
I was brought up near Saltaire and I did a double spread on the village in one of my books.
REALLY interesting.

I think the first problem is similarities/differences to what?
This will determine a lot of how you approach it.

Once you have sorted out what you're meant to be talking about, just plough through it a section at a time.

As for info, there's loads - if you google 'Saltaire' you will find plenty, particularly:

and

Enjoy.

Hey =)

Sorry, what i meant to say was similarities and differences in the areas past and present,
e.g: The Mill,

I put, it has stayed the same physically, but its uses have changed, for instance, there is a David Hockney exhibition now where maybe a huge loom might have been.
(or something like that)

I havent a clue what to do for the puropse of the village =S

That is the EASIEST!!!

Why did Titus Salt build it (clue: Bradford conditions)?
Now, what (apart from somewhere to live) is the village used for today (clue: what are you doing! or another clue: 'S... of h......... i.......')
It is also a tourist attraction.

Ah! gotcha!

hahah

well the next one is Education, i cant find anything on education in the period when it was built, but i think that it was the institute in Victoria square,
i put:

The schools were built to provide primary education for about 700 boys and girls but later became secondary schools, the buildings are no longer schools but Salt's grammar school still exists outside the village.

does that make sense?
i feel like i have to write more though, but i cant think of anything to write =S

(i'm seriously doubting my IQ here)

Salt provided two kinds of education:
1. a school for primary children
2. an institute for night-school for adults.
Yu will be able to fill in all the details

Nowadays we provide education for much more than primaries.
But we still provide night-schools.

What you put also is good.

Another 'local' here...

World Heritage Site - link in with purpose of the village.

Health - Salt built almshouses, created a park for his workers to exercise in and recognised the problems caused by pollution (think about the chimney...). He also prohibited the ale of alchohol in his village. Now? The hospital has been shut for years, though I can remember visiting my grandmother there (about 25 years ago). Alchohol is sold within the village - which is a relatively recent change. Medical care and restbite care (the almshouses) are provided in a different way now.

Shops - Salt provided shops for his workers to buy food etc... shops now? well there's Bargain Booze in Saltaire and erm... Asda in Shipley.
