I am looking at the IGCSE Core Content for 20th Century. It starts in 1919 with the Peace Treaties but clearly you need to go back to the causes of WW1 and WW1 itself before you can properly understand the situation of 1919. I can find plenty of resources re causes of WW1 but when it comes to the War itself I can only find either high level summaries or long detailed descriptions, and lots of bitty bits like focus on trenches/propoganda/conscription. Am I missing something here? Does anyone know how much detail you need to go in to or what topics are best to study to support the later content? Anyone know of any resources online that might help? Thanks so much in advance.

If the syllabus starts in 1919, you won;t be required to have any detailed knowledge of events before 1919.
All I would suggest you research about would be to find out about the LEGACY of th First World War.
You could use:
This fairly simple BBC comment.
This detailed article on the legacy of WWI from the national archives project
I would also ransack the Aftermath website.
And finally note that it was in Germany that WWI had the greatest legacy.
