A forum member asked for help with this essay:
The bolsheviks government was seriously threatened on the political, millitary and economic fronts in the first years of its existence
what were these threats and how succsesfully did the bolsheviks overcome them between 1918 and 1924..
But later wished to withdraw the request.
The answer A Finemess gave, however, was so good that I thought it was worth saving, so here it is...

With any question, the first step is to make sure you understand what it is asking you to do.
The Bolshevik government was seriously threatened on the political, military and economic fronts in the first years of its existence. What were these threats and how successfully did the bolsheviks overcome them between 1918 and 1924.
... is quite a long question and it's no wonder you have problems understanding it! So break it down into little bits like this ...
What were the political, military and economic fronts?
Political = people who did not like Bolshevik political ideas.
Military = people who fought against the Bolsheviks.
Economic = the problems the Bolsheviks had to face in getting enough food from the countryside to feed the factory workers in the cities
So the first part of your essay is to show your teacher that you understand what EACH of these were. You should give at least a paragraph to each of these. You should show what you know. Some of the things you might explain are ...
Remember to write an introduction paragraph and a conclusion paragraph when you have written the "bullet point" paragraphs.
And here's a good tip which I tell my pupils ...
A good idea is to tear some A4 lined paper into two and write each paragraph on a separate sheet of paper. This means you can shuffle the sheets to get them into the best order for your essay. So for this essay you should have 8 sheets. One each for the intro and conclusion and one each for the "bullet point" paragraphs.
It's a tricky question but you can do it if you take it a bit at a time.

- The political parties who did not support the Bolsheviks. Which ones? Why did they not support Lenin and his party?
- The military forces which attacked the Bolsheviks like the Czech legion, the USA, Britain and France. Why did they attack the Bolsheviks?
- The problems the Bolsheviks had in getting the peasants to produce food for the cities and why these problems existed?
- What Lenin did after the elections of November 1917 = "Dictatorship of the Proletariat
- The Red Army and the leadership of Leon Trotsky
- War Communism which was replaced by NEP

A Finemess's advice is wonderful, isn't it?
I think it will be a great help.
These notes - http://www.johndclar...pel_Stalin6.htm - seem to be about what you want to know.
I hesitate to point you to them, because I don't want you to overwhelm with facts and description the excellent essay-frame that A Finemess has given you.
But especially the first part of the notes will give you ideas of things to say to explain why and how the Bolsheviks succeeded in surviving.
