I am working on a IB extended essay topic. I am considering research on the Kashmir conflict and the Indo-Pak wars. I am thinking something like:

Indo-Pak Wars: Conflict over Kashmir
or

Indo-Pak Partition: to what extent did the partition of Indian Peninsula growth in the valley of Kashmir.

Any recommendations on improving the essay topic?

Please advise...

If I were you, having got a kind of general ida of the kind of thing you want to write about, I would put the precise question on hold, and spend some time reading around about the subject.

Define your specific question as you research - it is as you read that you will find out what the debateable issues are, and where it is easiest to find the relevant facts, and what issues have divided historians.

Remember: you want a topic which historians have disagreed about (so you can talk about different interpretations), and where there re enough facts to make a good essay.

After you have read generally for a while, you will be able to choose the best specific essay title.

And THEN you go back to your books and strip out the specific information and ideas you need for your essay.

Earlier I had stated the following:

Okay. Thanks for the pointers. So I have been reading about the Indo Pak wars and the decision on Kashmir in 1947, and also about the Conflict in Kashmir (Pakistan Occupied, India Ocuupied) and reviewing some recent issues:

As I read the material and researched on the internet: A specific question that is debatable comes to mind: It is as follows:

Kashmir Crisis: To what extent will the secession of Kashmir improve the security and prosperity to India sub continent.
Any recommendations??? Should I change anything? Please advice.

or

Kashmir Crisis: To what extent will the secession of Kashmir improve or diminish the peace and prosperity in the Indian sub continent?

Thanks in advance....

for the ee, can I have a question with a "will" in it for a history topic as it is not history yet.

I was doing some more reading and have come up with the following questions:

Kashmir Conflict: To what extent did the events following Partition of India in 1947 affect Kashmir?

or
To what extent did the Accession of Kashmir to India in 1947 has had an impact to the peace and prosperity of Indian sub continent?

Can you please let me know which question meets the IB EE requirement and where I can find quotes to use in the essay?

Regards

I was just about to write the same thing when I saw that you had written it.
My gut feeling would be no.
A historian has to look at the past, and - of you decided to go with this kind of question - would guess you would need to turn the thing round to be about whether/how the division of Kashmir has damaged the security and prosperity to India sub continent.

And now I see that you have done exactly what I was suggesting.
These two look good questions - whether they meet the IB EE requirement I can't say.
The other thing is that you need to find a form of essay question which will allow you to demonstrate the skills which score the higher marks.

We aren't really allowed to help on ths kind of thing, and I suggest you have a word with your teacher.
