Good question - let's hope some people answer it.

Part of the answer is what you are doing already - take part in a forum such as this!
The internet also gives you a wonderful opportunity to 'publish your wares' so to speak.
When I started www.johndclare.net in 2002, I can remember how excited I was when I first got more than a hundred visits in one day. Today, www.johndclare.net gets many more than a million visitors a year, and the number is growing all the time.

Don't be afraid to start little, offer a quality service, and go for it.

One small thing, make sure your spelling and grammar is correct, and that your facts are right.
If you DO go public, it has to be 100% accurate.

I am sure other people will have other ideas...
