Vasco da Gama was a famous Portuguee explorer.
There is a simple webpage on him here.
If you want to go deeper, there is a BBC web-site here.
You will be very interested in this student's account of da Gama, and what she thinks of him.
There is a detailed google book here.
As wel as finding out about what he did, try to think about why he was important.
This youtube video and this slide-share will help you do this.

Actually, I suspect that the teacher may want to hear a lot of the 'boring' bits!
But surely the fact that he executed all those Arabs can't be considered as 'boring'?
And what about all the dangers of seafaring in those days?
And the key excitement of heading off on a voyage where you don;t know where you're going and you don;t know if you'll ever get back???
I suspect a lot of it will just be in the presentation - if you make something sound exciting, it often is to other people.
