Hey,

I'm having some trouble with my history coursework, question number 2

Does Source B support the evidence of Source C about the Suffragette campaign?

How should I answer the question? Do I compare and contrast what each source is saying, or do I state what they re saying and then look a bit deeper, scratch the surface?

I'm confused

Compare and contrast - but organise your answer as a series of points, and for each new point, conclude whether, therefore, B supports or contradicts C.
Finish with a general conclusion.

If you will remind what Exam Board you are with, I may be able to point you to some much more specific and useful advice.

Hmmm.
Are you doing Social and Economic History (syllabus B ), or is this coursework?

Edexcel include a similar kind of question in their Paper 2 exams:

Quote

(B) Do Sources B and D support the view about suffragette activity given in Source C?
Explain your answer using all three sources. (6 marks)

Target Corroboration by cross-referencing of sources (AO2)
Level 1 Simple statement indicating one area of similarity such as recognition of the violent methods used by the suffragettes to achieve their aims, or generalised comment. NB: Candidates who only refer to 2 sources
cannot go above the top of this level (max. 3 marks). (1 -3)
Level 2 Developed statement indicating areas of support or otherwise e.g. noting that Source C talks about inciting riot. It does not specify any actions they took unlike the other two sources. (4 -6)

You will notice that it is a slightly different question in that it asks you to use TWO sources to validate the third, but I suspect the markscheme will be similar:
- simple answers will just notice SURFACE similarities and differences.
- deeper answers will have ANALYSED the sources in 'areas' of content. They might also compare the TONE or PURPOSE/INTENT of the sources to indicate support or contradiction.

What I suggest you do for your question is to ask your teacher to explain to you the markscheme for the question.
That way, it will soon become clear what you have to do to gain a good mark - or at least what skills you do not understand and have to ask the teacher to explain to you.

It is absolutely correct (and not cheating) for your teacher to explain the markscheme to you as part of your preparation for the coursework. What s/he cannot do is take in your wrk, tell you where to correct it, and give you it back to change.
Anythng else, however, is OK help.

When your teacher is explaining the markscheme to you, therefore, ask him/her to give you examples of what the markscheme means.
