Hay, Hayley!
On this site we don't TELL you the answers, but we do try to point you to good sites where you will be able to find out for yourself.

According to WikinAswers (though hardly the most reliabe soucre): "The First Fleet left Portsmouth, England, on 13 May 1787,and arrived in Botany Bay on 18 January 1788, later moving to Sydney Cove on 26 January 1788."
So your question: 'Describe what life in england was like before the first fleet' really means describe life in England in the late 18th century/Georgian England.
Try these sites:
http://www.localhist...g/18thcent.html
http://www.umich.edu/~ece/
and these books:
http://books.google.co.uk/books=life+in+18th+century+England
http://www.archive.o...gianen006202mbp
When you are researching this, make sure you put a due emphasis on crime and punishment.

On transportation, try:http://vcp.e2bn.org/...sportation.html
http://www.learningcurve.gov.uk/candp/puni.../g09/g09cs1.htm

On WHY they used transportation, you will find some ideas in the above two sites, and also:
