Ok, I inherrited a antique tea samavors that was owned by the Czar Nichola. My great grand mother worked for him and when she fleed the country durring the war she had the samavor under one arm and the baby in the other (my grand father). I went to an antique road show and the appraiser flipped over it but they wanted me to somehow prove it's "provenance". It has the Czar coat of arms and seals ect. and I can provide pictures as well, but I am having trouble with whom or where I should take it to. An historian, an antique dealer, Russian counselet? If someone is one of these or knows someone please let me know or have them contact me. Then I would like to sell it.

Not a Clue!
I've put it here in student discussion in case anyone else knows, but I doubt you'll find anyone on this forum who can help; this is a forum to help students with their History homework.
You would be better to post on an antiques forum.

One suggestion would be to take it to Sotheby's and let them:
1. value it
2. auction it - you can put a reserve price on it so it doesn't go for less than you;re prepared to accept.

Best of luck

Take it to your local museum, maybe someone there can help to prove its origins ?

I agree with Marx, but why would you want to sell it???? Please think carefully about this, and talk to any remaining family before you do it. This has been in your family for generations. You inherited it, that means it's part of your heritage. Even if it means nothing to you (!) it might mean something to others in your family, or even your children one day.

Provenance might be hard to prove. Maybe buyers look for a note or letter from the to czar to avoid fakes or thefts.

If you really are in such dire straits that you need the money, I feel for you -maybe talk to family first to see if any of them could / would buy it? The money might seem a lot to you just now, but you may really regret it in the future.

I totally agree with the above comment- if you don't need to sell it don't. I would think you might be regretfull of selling something of that much historical value. How much would you plan on selling it for?
