Just a question about the extended essay, is this topic acceptable for an extended essay in history?

My topic is Dokdo/ Takeshima Island.

Japan and South Korea are currently disputing over who should have sovereignty over the island. Although it is a current issue, the whole dispute started in the 1950's. Also, the evidence and facts for each country's argument come from the past.

So is this topic acceptable for history, or is it regarded as current events?

You'll have to speak to your teacher.

I think, however, it will be very difficult to do anyway.
What historiography is there of the island?
What opposing historical opinions are there?

The problem is that it is a POLITICAL dispute, not an historical one.
You need to find an issue over which HISTORIANS differ.

Besides which, it would be very difficult for you to be objective.
