I am in serious trouble here. I have a lot of broad topics in mind, but I can't seem to narrow down my question. I would love to do something concerning Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Ancient Japan or WWII but the actual narrowing down of a question is killing me. Can someone throw out some ideas that would be good enough to start this essay with? It doesn't matter what it is on as long as it is do-able. Thank you so much!!

You seem to be struggling with this!
A good topic will be one where:
Start by trying to find out what the areas of historiographical dispute have been; the Hodder Access to history series, -or any general textbook which deals with the historiography of the topic - will tell you this.
Once you;ve got your question:
1. find out what the other historians have said over time.
2. research the facts for yourself
and you;re away.
Unfortunately forum rules (and exam board rules) really forbid us to give you any more help that this.
A good topic will be one where:
- you have easy access to a range of resources, both primary and secondary
- there is a clear, simple question/focus of debate
- there has been a developing historiography on that question.
