As you know, Mr. Clare is very busy dealing with Ofsted, so I will see what I can do. However, before I can help you, can you tell me what question you have been set, or what you have been told to study? The English Civil War is a big subject and I don't want to send you off in the wrong direction.

hree good sites as far as you are concerned:
1. This is the best for what you want.
2. The HistoryLearning site is always good for a basic explanation.
3. And this site has a very useful grid of possible causes (some more important than others).

A causation essay is the easiest to write.

Analyse your researched causes into a number (5 or 6) of causes.
Take a paragraph for each cause.
Use simple discourse maekers to start each paragarph (the first cause, the next cause)
Then PEEL every paragraph:
- Put the point simply (topic sentence)
- Evidence which supports your assertion
- Explain 'from the thread to the needle' HOW this cause actually helped to lead to the outbreak of fighting.
- Link - add a link sentence linking what you are writing about to the next sentence.

Finish with a paragraph talking about what other historians have considered the most important cause(s), and explaining which YOU feel is the most important.

This essay structure for a causation essay won't change substantially, even when you go to university.

could you give an example of a paragraphh about this topic with the things you have mentioned to make a successful essay including the PEEL.

Thank you, :D

No - I won't go that far, because it would be too much help - it's be like cheating your classmates.

But I can give you a frame for the paragraph:

The <first> cause of the civil war I am going to look at is...
The facts about this are...
This helped to cause the Civil War by...
This then linked to me next cause -- the... -- because...
